5 ITEMS TO STORE AWAY TO DECLUTTER YOUR HOME Image

How to declutter your home?

No matter how big or small your home is, it seems like every year you have less and less room. Unless you’re constantly adding another person to your household, this loss can be confusing. Where is all that space disappearing to? Answer; years’ worth of hoarding.

You may not realize it, but every year you accumulate more and more stuff. And that stuff has to go somewhere right? The problem is that most people get new things but don’t know what to do with their old belongings. Here are 5 items you should consider putting away in storage in order to declutter your home.

  1. Clothes & Shoes
Clothes take up the majority of our closets. We are costly updating our wardrobes to keep up with our growing bodies and style changes. It’s hard to get rid of old clothes as they hold sentimental value and may or may not eventually come back in style. Store away old clothes to make room for more new clothes and other accessories.
  2. Souvenirs
It’s okay to hold on to souvenirs and memories, like gifts and photo albums, but these keepsakes often take up too much room. Storing away souvenirs will declutter your home and protect your priceless keepsakes.
  3. Holiday Decorations
Holiday decorations can take up a lot of space, especially Christmas decorations. The good thing is that holiday decorations are only needed once a year. For instance, Halloween decorations are only used around Halloween time and Christmas decorations are only needed in December. Instead of taking up space in your garage, use a storage unit to store away unused holiday decorations.
  4. Works in Progress
There is always something we refuse to toss, even when it’s broken because we promise ourselves that we’re going to fix it. Broken furniture, electronics, and lamps, get put in the work-in-progress pile. Storage units are a great place to put unfinished projects until you find time to work on them.
  5. Appliances
We live in a very tech-driven world. There must be more than a dozen electronic devices and appliances in your home right now that are not being used. Consider putting them in storage as you never know when you’ll need to use them and this way they don’t take up real-estate.

It’s hard to part with your things. Everything in your home tells a story and is a snapshot of your life. If you find it hard to toss out the old and useless, you may want to invest in a storage unit. Moving things you no longer use into a storage unit will help you declutter your home without parting with your things.
