How to Decide if You Should Store or Sell? Image

So, you’re standing there with your arms folded, facing the eternal question of whether to store the stuff you’re looking at, or whether you should sell it. On the one hand, you already have it, and it cost you both time and money to acquire this stuff. On the other hand, it’s hard to say no to the prospect of cash.

But how do you decide if you need to put your stuff in storage, or sell it off entirely?

Well, ask yourself this one, very important question: Will I use it?

Be Honest, Now.

When you ask, “will I use it?” it’s important that you are really honest with yourself. Also, don’t ask if you’ll use it some day in a mysterious future that may not come (like the one in which your jeans from your university days will magically fit again). Be specific. When will you use this stuff again? Because if you’re going to pay money to store it somewhere, it’s important to ask when you’ll be taking it out of the mothballs.

If you cannot nail down a time in the near future when these items will be used again, it’s probably a better idea to sell them rather than store them.

If it’s been years since you’ve last made use of said items, then you should definitely sell them. Whether it’s a box full of sweaters, a couch, a filing cabinet, or that old chest of drawers, if you’re not using it, you’re not going to use it, and there’s no room in your house for it, there’s no reason to rent a space to keep it so you cannot use it someplace else.
